Doll Faces for your Flat Face Doll Patterns

Over the past 5 or 6 months I have had three different people ask me if I would paint them doll faces that they can use on there flat face doll patterns. I thought about it and I have started creating faces. These are the first two, now I have to design some kind of packaging, with directions, etc. I would like to make a variety of these faces, from pretty ladies to Santas, children, fairies etc. So far everyone who has seen them thinks it a great idea. The faces will be printed on premium cotton fabric and can be washed... great for kids dolls. Please let me know what you think. Thanks so much for visiting! Hugss, Caroline

I recently took an online class with Diane Keeler for making Doll Shoes. This is the result...

What a talented lady she is!

I put a pear behind the shoes so you can see how small they are, about 2 inches. We had to make a last first then the shoe. I used green silk dupioni fabric for the shoes. Not bad for my first pair of little shoes. Now I can finish off my dolls with a nice pair of shoes.

My Newest Wall Hanging Creation 2010

I finally finished this special order of a Quilted Wall Hanging. It took several months to create. Its loaded with embellishments including, silk ribbon embroidery, beading and more. It measures about 12X17". This was such fun, I love doing the handwork!

Hello and Welcome!

I'd like to introduce my newest doll creation, "Gypsy Jewel". She is a one of a kind, 17" all cloth doll over wire armature. Her face is hand sculpted and painted, costume was made using lots of fancy fabrics, Vintage Lace, Vintage Jewelry bits, naturally lots of glitz and sparkle, including, Swarovski crystalsl, assorted beads, gypsy coin chain, charms, sequins, tarot cards and so much more. I tried to make a Tambourine and ended up making a Music maker thingy around her right hand using a piece of suede as the base, Vintage Bells and Swarovski Crystals. The last picture shows it close up. She is loaded with embellishments and has a simple wooden base that I painted black. There is no pattern available.

She is on her way to "The Magical Gypsy Carnival", 2010 Treasure Of The Gypsy Challenge at the Fall International Quilt Market & Festival in Houston, Texas. The Market and Festival dates are October 30 - November 7, 2010. I want to give a big Thank you to Gypsy Pamela for all the work she does to put this event together every year!

Hello Everyone,

I am so excited to tell you that, I just received the new Doll Collector Magazine, November 2010. As I was turning the pages first I saw my Cinderella Doll then a couple of pages later my Coring, Gypsy Of The Enchanted Forest was there. Its just so exciting, that I had to share it with you...LOL!

I am almost finished with my newest doll (no pattern). I created her to send to Texas for the Gypsy Challenge at the Houston Quilt Fair. I will be mailing her in about 2 weeks. Naturally she is a gypsy in lime and aqua colors mostly with long wavy black hair. As soon as I am finished with her I will post some pictures for you and give you some more information about the Gypsy Challenge. I have entered two years in a row with this year being the third. I am still working on that Tambourine for her and as I mentioned earlier, if it comes out nice I will post instructions for you.

Cinderella Pattern update

WOOHOO I finished the pattern. I am now proof reading it, then I have to make a cover and supply list..... Then I have to send it out to be put into pdf format so I can make CDs for this pattern. Yes, its another biggie, but there are tons of pictures with easy to follow step by step directions.

I am also working on a Gypsy Doll that I will be entering in the Gypsy Challenge at the Houston Convention center in October. I will give you more information as I go and ofcourse a picture of her when she is complete. My husband thinks shes beautiful, but I am just getting started, this is the fun part LOL, the embellishments, beads and lots of sparkle... Its such fun being able to still play with dolls.

Cinderella Pattern update

Well I finally finished writing up instructions, with LOTS of color pictures of Cinderellas body, about 28 pages. WOOHOO... Now I just have to do the costume and hair/head piece, so I am almost there.

I have also been working on a doll for the Gypsy Challenge again this year. I am working on her costume, that is the FUN part. She will be a one of a kind without a pattern. When she is finished I will post her for you. I started working on making a tambourine for her and as I am making it I will take pictures so I can give you directions on how I made it, if it comes out good:)

Cinderella Pattern update

I am excited to say that the First 20 pages of my Cinderella Pattern is completed, but that is just the face sculpting and coloring! I like to add lots of pictures and easy to follow directions. That was the hard part. I am now working on the body... woohoo! My Cinderella doesn't have glass slippers, she wears real swarovski crystals.

Oh, I have to mentions that I am also working on a Santa Doll and Pin, (two sizes). I don't usually work on two at a time, but that cute little Santa wouldn't get out of my head until I started on him. So, I already made the pattern and painted the face, now I am testing the pattern. This pattern will be Very Easy, with a flat face, cartoon/cutsy look, no sculpting, so it will take a lot less time to create. I want it to remind you of a Vintage Look/Style? You will see what I mean. Sorry I am keeping him a suprise until he is finished, then I will post him.

I am also working on a Gypsy Doll for The Gypsy Challenge in Texas in October. I purchased a couple of things and I am going to see if I can make a tambourine. Wish me luck!

Hi Everyone,

Oh my goodness, I can't believe how long its been since I last posted anything... I a soo sorry!
My husband had surgery and I had to take care of him. I had no idea it was going to take up so much of my time. Then I got sick, the sickest I think I have ever been in my life, for about 5 weeks. Feeling much better now:)
I just wanted to share with you a couple of my Dollie Pins. They are so much fun to make.
For those of you who are waiting for my newest Cloth Doll Pattern "Cinderella", to be completed, all I can say is that I have started, but due to the medical issues over the last couple of months is what is holding things up. I am trying to get caught up with my work and special orders so I can devote my time to finishing the pattern. I will keep you posted.
I also plan on entering "The Magical Gypsy Carnival", 2010 Treasure Of The Gypsy Challenge. I am working on a one of a kind doll and ofcourse she will be a Gypsy. Due to the gorgeous colors of fabric I received for this Challenge I decided to call her Gypsy Jewel. I plan on posing her in a dance postition. My biggest challenge right now is figuring a way to make a Tambourine (doll size). This doll should be approximately 20" tall. When and if I can figure a way to make the Tambourine I will share it with you, here on my blog. IF ANYONE HAS ANY IDEAS I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR THEM!!!!

China Tea Cup/Saucer Pincushion PROJECT

OH MY GOODNESS, I JUST HAD TO SHARE THIS WITH YOU!

I have seen a few of these Shabby Victorian Style China Tea Cup and Saucer Pin Cusions... Oooh La La!!! I just love them, so naturally I had to make one. I had feathers flying all over the place and I sure made a mess looking for little treasures to add to it. I may have added a few too many, because now there isn't enough room for pins... LOL!!!! I really don't think anyone would use it for a pin cusion anyway, its too pretty!

Its sooo easy to make to......... you probably have everything you need right there!!! Woo-Hoo!!

All you need is a cup and saucer, how about an old one you can't get rid of because you like it so much, but it has a chip on it, well now you can use it again, "whats old is new"!

~Simply glue the Cup to the Saucer using E-6000 Glue

~Go through those scrap fabrics you just can't part with to cover the top of cup overlapping at least an inch or so wider.

~Cut a circle of fleece, the size of the top of cup.

........ Run a gather stitch all around the circle, close to the edge, as you would when making a yo-yo. Lay circle of fleece on wrong side of fabric (inside) and gently gather circle fabric so that it will fit inside top of cup, but will pop up above it.

~Using Glue Gun, put some glue around the inside of the top of cup, (not on edge, down 1/4 to 1/2 inch below rim)... put about 2 inches of glue then carefully add the gathered top, then more glue and so on. When you have about 3 inches left, stuff it with fiberfill. You might have a bit of a struggle here, because it wants to keep popping out...LOL!

~ NOW YOU ARE READY FOR THE FUN PART.... DECORATE YOUR PIECE!

~Start with putting an embellishment around the top of the cup. THIS WAY YOU CAN HIDE ANY BOO-BOO'S YOU MADE, just cover it up!

I put Ruffled Lace, Rhinestones and Pearls around the top of cup. Then just started adding your Treasures, including feathers, boa, buttons, charms, flowers, bows, millenery supplies, birds and the list can go on and on. Just have fun!

This just popped into my head! Why not decorate large Hat Pins by gluing on Flowers and Beads. Well you know what I am going to to when I sign off

Cinderella Doll is Finished!

I am sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you on Cinderellas update, but my mind kept going blank...LOL!! Now that the doll is finished I can start putting the pattern together. I took so many pictures, its going to drive me crazy... Oh, well! Thats half the fun.

The "Glass shoe" that inspired this doll, didn't work... Anyway, Cinderella wanted Crystal slippers, so this is what I cam up with. The are as close as I could get to, looking like glass slippers. I'm happy with them! So is Cinderella... LOL!

There lots of detail around her face including real Swarovski Crystal earings and Necklace.

Along with her fake eyelashes, she also has clear AB crystal eyeliner! I love sparkle!

I made silk ribbon flowers, faux pearls, fancy trim, feathers and Vintage Millinery flowers in her head piece. I left her hair wild and natural.

I will be taking more pictures of Cinderella tomorrow of the full view, from head to toe!

Hopefully, I will get a chance to post them within a couple of days!

Also, it is helpful to have a couple of jewelry tools, as shown.

Simply line up the supplies as I did and attach from the bottom up.

By making your own doll jewelry, you can save a bunch, not to mention you will have one-of-a-kind items.

Cinderella Necklace How-to

This is the Necklace on Cinderella.

Its is sooo easy!

I have added the supplies and amounts directly in the pictures so you can see what the item is. I hope this helps.

Start with the Crystal heart... add a bail. Slide it over the Crystal chain.

Next add knot covers to each end of crystal chain, adding a small dot of E-6000 glue, then press closed. Add twist closure. You may need jewelry pliers, but it can be done by hand.

Update on Cinderella Doll Pattern

Hello!

Its freezing here in Florida... burrr! I'm just happy its not snowing.

So sorry for the delay in posting. I have been playing catch up with a pile of work.

Well Cinderella now has a head piece with faux pearls, silk ribbon flowers, tiny Vintage flowers, boa, lace and fluffy feathers. She has Swarovski Crystal earings, rhinestone necklace with Swarovski Crystal heart pendant. I will post the how-to on her jewelry for you.

Oh, I almost forgot her fake eyelashes and crystal eyeliner... she is very happy with them!

I'm adding the embellishments to her dress. This is my favorite part! I will be saving the shoes for last. Unfortunately, the "glass looking" shoes that gave me the inspiration to make Cinderella just aren't working, so I will have to make my own... that should be interesting LOL...

Update on Cinderella Doll Pattern

This is just a sneak peek at Cinderella with hair. The first photo is a picture of the colored mohair I used to make her hair, it is in soft colors and I wanted her hair full, soft, wild yet under control. I added it by felting it from the back of her neck forward. I don't want to show you the full front facial view until it is finised to my liking...

As you can see, I started her head piece using gorgeous Bridal lace with pearls. I hand sewed it onto a wire for stability... Still not completely sure how I am going to embellish it, your going to have to wait and see, like me... LOL!

Anyway, as you can see I am working on the bodice. Once I am finished hand sewing the bodice to the doll, I will attach her head, then her hair... CAN'T WAIT! It might be a few days due to unforseen family matters.

Cinderella Doll Pattern Update

I worked most of the day Sunday on Cinderellas costume. So far I am very happy and so is she... LOL!

I just love all the layers for her skirt. I used a Vintage lace, that is in the second picutre. I wanted it to show as an underlayer, peeking out on the bottom of the dress. There is a glitter, sparkle tulle underneath, that is meant to catch the eye with just a hint of a sparkle. Then I added a rounded layer, not sure what it is called... duh LOL. I will do all the additional embellishments when the whole dress is made. Thats my favorite part:)

The sleeves so far, are double layered. The under layer is the glitter tulle and the outer is the same lace as the dress. The sleeves are far from finished!

Ooops... she doesn't have a bodice yet, that is because I have so many ideas that I don't know what to do...

The head isn't attached yet since it is so much easier to attach the costume without it. I have lots of ideas on what to do with her hair. I think I am heading for long free natural hair with lots of jewels and flower... we'll see!

Its so fascinating to me, watching my dolls come to life. I always start with an idea, but some how they never turn out that way... LOL!

Cinderella Doll Update

The face is not finished yet. I still have to add fake eyelashes and maybe crystal eyeliner. Once her head is attached to the body then I can needle sculpt to move the stuffing where it needs it. I wanted to use colors soft, since she will be Cinderella. This is not the best picture...

I finally made green eyes and I am happy with them... even Cinderella likes them.

I am hoping to get a good start on her gown this weekend.... can't wait!

I bought some dyed mohair, but Cinderella doesn't seem to like it... LOL!

Cinderella Doll Update

I finished sculpting my Cinderella Doll face. It still needs some needle sculpting to move the stuffing where I want it. I am hoping to color the face in today.... can't wait to see what she is going to look like. I'm thinking green eyes, since her costume will be in salmon/peachy color and cream... thats the plan so far... LOL My dolls always have a way of changing what I have in mind!

Quick Tip for Turning Fingers on Doll Hands

To keep those tiny fingers from tearing when you turn them, first put a very tiny line of Grrrip Glue as I have done above. Quickly pull glue towards outside of fabric to thin and smooth the glue. Let dry at least 30 minutes, then turn right side out.

Update on Cinderella Doll Pattern

I have been making progress as you can see. I actually made two dolls, this one is a bit smaller, so the "glass slippers " will be too big for this one. Thats okay, it will give me a chance to play!

The body still needs a lot of needle sculpting to smooth it out. I am using Southern Belle cotton fabric.... I just love it and a premium polyester fiber fill. She has an armaturn in one leg, (you can see it in the top picture). Once my husband drills a hole for me in the wooden base I have chosen it will be so much easier to work with. I found some gorgeous lace from Hong Kong. It is very delicate in cream and soft peachy pink colors... I also bought other pieces of lace and other fun stuff... can't wait to start her costume.

Starting my newest doll pattern- Cinderella

You guessed it! I found these "glass slippers", and Cinderella came to mind! Not just any Cindrella this one will be very fancy a true Bell Of The Ball. These shoes are actually plastic and they were found in the Wedding section for party gifts. So I measured the shoe to figure out the body size. She will be approximately 20" tall. It will be a Cloth Doll Pattern. I will be posting the progress with pictures as I go.... I already ordered some gorgeous lace through eBay, can't wait to receive it!
The Mermaidens Doll Club I belong to will be testing the body part of the pattern and making runway dolls as a challenge for our club. So I will also be making a runway doll using this pattern. I will keep you posted.

I just had to share this with you. This was a special order for one of my wonderful customers. It is a Shabby Victorian Beaded, Embroidered Quilt Wall Hanging. It measures 18.5X16". She will be putting it into a shadow box so it can be enjoyed year around while being protected from dust and other elemants. I am so happy with the way it turned out!

I just had to share some very exciting news... I just received my "Contemporary Doll Collector Magazine", the March 2010 issue. How thrilling it is to see my newest mini Cloth Doll Pattern published in this magazine... Wow! This is a picture of her and above the magazine you will find it in. New! Shabby Pink Pillow

I just finished making this Shabby, Victorian Pillow with a fussy cut Fisher Lady image.

This picture is just a quick take. I will be taking several more and posting them in my eBay store over the weekend @ http://store.ebay.com/carolines-handmades on auction.

It measures approximately 15X15", including the ruffles. I embellished it using Pink Silk Ribbon, assorted beads and sequins. I fussy cut the Fisher Lady image and some flowers and leaves, so she looks like she is coming right out of the flowers.

I finally finished my Quilt Wall Hanging. It has taken me months to complete. It has Antique Lace, hundreds of beads, sequins, bugle beads and more. It was all applied by hand one at a time. Then I made several tiny silk ribbon roses and leaves and added some flower and leaf beads. It measures 17X14" and would look wonderful in a shadow box to match your decor.

I have been working on this newest piece of Art. It will be a Quilted Wall Hanging. I have been working on it for months now.... all the beads have been indivdually added, lots of silk ribbon embroidery, sequins, bugle beads, flower and leaf beads, Vingage lace as an overlay on her dress, gorgeous Venice lace that frames this Victorian Beauty. The background fabric is a satin brocade in whites and off white colors. There will be a sleeve on the back for easy hanging.

This would bring romance and elegance to any room and would be fabulous framed in a Shadow Box to match your decor!

Another Handmade One of a kind! Designed and made by Caroline Erbsland.
I make the "Bubble Cameo" myself, using a Vintage reproduction image and placing it in a "Lucite Bubble", it is about 10mm high and the image looks dimensional. Then I add a view goodies including fancy filigree Antique Brass OX base, setting, bead caps and dainty chain. It is further embellished with Porcelain Roses, Vintage Pearls, Vintage glass flower beads and a sprinkling of AB Cystals.

Under The Sea Mermaid Cameo Brooch For Sale

I just designed and made this new Cameo/Pendant using a "Custom Cameo". The actual cameo is made using a reproduction image, which I added a tiny bit of golden glitter then put a raises Bubble over it to make it into a cameo. The cameo rests in a lacy brooch base on top of a fancy filigree antique brass OX base, then it is surrounded by more stampings, lots of crystals, Vintage pearls, flowers etc. Looks like it came from an old jewelry box. She finally has a name, her name is "Corina". Oh, and she is much happier now with her fake eyelashes...
I have been so busy writing the directions and making the pattern for this new doll, I haven't had time to update you... sorry about that! There is so much detail and lots of pictures to go along with her, it seems like I am writing a book, (this pattern will be another CD pattern). I do like to make my directions easy step by step directions to follow, that is why it takes so much time. So far there are 32 pages and I lost count of the pictures. I still have a unique technique I used for the Hair/headpiece, that I want to cover and a bonus too! The bonus will be of the Mini Enchanted Forest display she stands in.

Display in the making for new doll & pattern

Hi everyone! I decided to make a small magical scene for my doll. I started with wood base, dowel and wooden doll head then covered it all with the plaster sheets, what a mess! I let it dry over night, now I am going to decoupage tiny pieces of tissue paper onto it. I want the doll to stand and hold onto the pole, tree, staff or whatever I end up making it and ofcourse there is a hole drilled for her wire armature to fit. We'll see what happens... now you know as much as me! Gotta run!
