Finally has a name

Just a quick note to let you know that my "air dry clay" doll finally has a name.
This fantasy character looks like an entertainer from the Vaudville era.
The name is "Merlot". It was the dolls idea, lol!!

Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful day!

She/it finally has a name!

I finally decided on a name for my air dry clay doll, that I created in a class given by  Marlaine Verhelst.

"MERLOT" is the name I came up...

She/it looks to me like an old Vaudville entertainer so I wanted an old name... but the doll wanted the name "Merlot"... if your a doll maker you know the doll somehow lets you
know what it wants, lol!!

Bye for now!

Finshed my 1st Air Dry Clay Doll

I finally finished my 1st Paper Clay Doll, in an online class given by Marlaine Verhelst (2012).  If you ever have the opportunity to take a class with Marlaine, go for it!
She is a great teacher. I learned so much more than I could have imagined, not to mention a new technique to create dolls. This Doll is very different they my usual. I love it/her... not sure what it is, lol!! A fantasy Doll... I'm having a hard time naming this Doll, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated:)

I sculpted the Head, Hands and Shoes using Paper Clay,  painted using watercolor paint and the body is cloth over wire armature. The costume has a lot of hand work and fancy fabrics. The Doll stands approximately 24" tall.

I lost track of how many hours it took to create this doll. I don't think I would have even started if I knew how long it would take. I have a new respect for paper clay dolls.

Thank you for stopping by:)

Air Dry Clay Class with Marlaine Verhelst

Hi there... Wow, what fun I'm having!
I decided to try something new, so I'm taking an online class with Marlaine Verhelst.
Of all the online classes I've taken, none compare to this one. This is my first attempt at air dry clay sculpting...  If you ever have a chance to take a class given by Marlaine go for it, she is the BEST... she answers all your questions and has a great eye for detail and you really learn a lot. I can't say enough about her! The face is painted using water color paints.

The hands were a nightmare, LOL!! I spent days on them, they were more work than the face. They almost went flying out the window, lol!!  Because the fingers almost drove me crazy I decided to make the feet with shoes instead... they took hours to get to this point also... still working on both the hands and feet. As frustrating as the hands have been, its been just as exciting. Best ever class!

I'm starting on the body now and can't wait to get to the costume... will keep posting pictures as I go.

Thanks so much for visiting and have a great day!
Caroline
I just took an online class with Cyndi Mahlstadt for this cute Jester on a stick. What fun!
It still isn't finished. The face is stretch fabric that is sculpted and painted.
Have a great day!

Caroline:)

New Doll Pattern almost complete...

Hello to all...

Wow, it's been a while since I've had time to post. I've been busy working on all kinds of projects. Here is a picture of my newest doll, my version of Red Riding Hood. I created this doll pattern for those of you who asked me if I would include a ready made face... ta-da!!

I hope you like here, since the face is already made for you, think of the time you will save... oh and to make her even easier I gave you simple shoe shaped foot, that you simply paint... That means no toes to sculpt... Now that the doll is finished I can put together the pattern. As always I took tons of pictures and the pattern will have step by step directions as always.

Even though I have all my notes, directions and pictures, putting the actual pattern together takes time, but I couldn't wait and wanted to share this with you.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

New Pattern under construction...

Hi everyone!

I hope you are all well!!

Just wanted to let you know that I have a New Pattern under construction.
Since so many of you asked about including a ready made face with my pattern, I decided to do just that. The pattern is a flat face doll pattern and it will have a face that you can print directly onto the fabric your using to construct the doll... "no sculpting"... easy, easy, easy... Oh and there will not be any toes to worry about either. I'm constructing her to have painted on shoes.
She is going to be "my version" of Red Riding Hood... The face and body are complete. I am in the process of designing her costume... the fun part... woo-hoo! I will keep you posted.

Love to all,
Caroline
